Bécancour, June 25, 2025 – After a historic performance in 2024 by earning three prestigious honors at the Sélection Caseus Awards (Best Organic Cheese, Best Cheddar, and Best Reduced-Fat Cheese), L’Ancêtre returns stronger than ever in 2025 with five cheeses named finalists, making it the most nominated company of this year’s edition.
This remarkable achievement reinforces L’Ancêtre’s reputation for excellence in Quebec’s cheese industry. It also highlights the growing appeal of organic products rooted in sustainable agricultural practices.
These new nominations follow two national distinctions received earlier this year: L’Ancêtre organic cheddar, made with milk from grass-fed cows, was awarded at both the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards and the CTAQ Food Innovation Awards.

L’Ancêtre’s 2025 Caseus Finalists:
Organic Light Medium Cheddar – Reduced-fat Cheese (under 20%)
Winner of this category last year, this organic cheese is aged for a minimum of six months. With just 18% fat and 9 g of protein per 30 g serving, it combines lightness and nutritional value. Made with partially skimmed, unpasteurized milk.
Organic Halloumi – Grilling Cheese
The first certified organic halloumi in Quebec, available exclusively in the province since May 2025. This grilling cheese stands out for its milder, less salty taste compared to other options on the market.
1 Year Artisan Goat Cheese – Washed, mixed, or natural rind goat cheese
This aged version of our Artisan Goat Cheese develops a firm, cheddar-style texture with refined flavors.
Organic Extra Old Cheddar & Organic 4-Year-Old Cheddar – Cheddar Cheese
Both aged with care from unpasteurized milk to preserve their full, complex flavor profile.
Thanks to their natural aging process, all of the finalist aged cheeses (excluding the halloumi) are lactose-free.

About the Sélection Caseus Awards
Launched in 1998, Sélection Caseus celebrates the excellence of Quebec’s cheese industry and highlights the skill of its artisans. The competition introduces consumers to the creativity of cheesemakers through a wide range of high-quality, innovative products.
Sélection Caseus is the only competition dedicated exclusively to Quebec cheeses. Open to all producers, regardless of size, cheese style, or milk type. It is organized by Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, along with the Institut de technologie agroalimentaire du Québec.
The sensory evaluation for the 25th edition took place on May 28, 2025, with 211 cheeses from 46 cheesemakers assessed by an expert jury of seasoned professionals. After a rigorous process, 63 finalists were selected, proudly representing 14 regions across Quebec.
