L’Ancêtre Organic Cheese is Finalist in Two Prestigious Canadian Competitions
Bécancour, April 8, 2025 – L’Ancêtre Cheese Factory is proud to announce that its line of certified organic grass-fed cheddars has been named a finalist in two major Canadian competitions! These exceptional cheeses won over the judges of SIAL Innovation 2025 and the Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards.
Mild, medium and old ‘grass-fed’ cheddars are offered in 325g formats, with extra-old cheddar set to hit the market in December 2025. Last November, the cheese dairy won the CTAQ’s Innovation Prize 2024 with the first products in the range to be launched (mild and medium cheddars), making them the first products in Canada to be awarded this certification. This certification guarantees that 75% of the cows’ feed comes from organic grass and fodder, with the remaining 25% made up of cereals and essential supplements for the winter months.
With these nominations, Fromagerie L’Ancêtre confirms its commitment to innovation and quality, while offering tasty cheeses that respect sustainable farming practices.
Once again, L’Ancêtre Cheese Factory would like to highlight the collaboration of the five organic farms that have obtained certification: Ferme Liclerc, Ferme Gonzales, Ferme Saumonière, Ferme Pocatoise and Ferme Safranc which share its values and surpass the requirements for organic certification. These producers feed their cows as much grass as possible to enhance their well-being, produce milk that is even richer in essential fats and reduce their carbon footprint.
We would also like to thank our invaluable collaborators, including Les Producteurs de lait du Québec, Dairy Farmers of Canada for developing the certification, and Ecocert, the independent, accredited certifier who runs the rigorous organic audit system for the “grass-fed” certification.
