Fromagerie L’Ancêtre finalist for the CTAQ Innovation in Nutrition Award 2024 for the first “grass-fed” certified cheddar!
Bécancour, October 17, 2024 – Fromagerie L’Ancêtre is honored to announce its selection as a finalist for the 2024 Food Innovation Award in the New or Improved Products category, subcategory Dairy Products, for its new “grass-fed” cheddar.
The mild, medium, and strong cheddars in 325g format, made from unpasteurized, gluten-free, and lactose-free milk (with the exception of the mild cheddar, which contains traces of lactose – less than 1%), are the first in Canada to feature, in addition to the organic logo, the new “Grass-Fed” certification developed by Dairy Farmers of Canada and verified by the rigorous audit system of Ecocert, an independent certifying body. This logo guarantees that 75% of the cows’ diet consists of grass, while the remaining 25% is made up of grains and necessary supplements, especially during the Canadian winter.
Fromagerie L’Ancêtre would like to highlight the collaboration of five certified organic farms: Ferme Liclerc, Ferme Gonzales, Ferme Saumonière, Ferme Pocatoise, and Ferme Marianne Landry, which share our values and exceed the requirements of organic certification. These producers feed their cows with as much grass as possible to improve their well-being, produce milk richer in essential fats, and reduce their carbon footprint.
