Fromagerie L’Ancêtre wins multiple product quality awards

at British Empire Cheese Show and Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.

BÉCANCOUR, Friday, November 3, 2017 – Fromagerie L’Ancêtre, Canada’s largest organic cheese producer, is having a very successful fall, winning multiple awards at two major competitions today in Toronto. The company took home five prizes at both the British Empire Cheese Show and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

Swiss Emmental and butter steal the show!

Several Fromagerie L’Ancêtre products caught the jury’s attention at the British Empire Cheese Show. Among them, Swiss Emmental, salted butter and unsalted butter garnered top honours. L’Ancêtre’s butter was named Best Butter of 2017, winning the prize for a second year in a row.

The contest, which is in its 90th edition this year, evaluates the products of its members and hundreds of cheesemakers from across Canada.

L’Ancêtre’s award-winning cheeses and butters are:

  • Swiss Emmental / 1st place
  • Old Cheddar / 1st place
  • Salted Butter / 1st place
  • Unsalted Butter / 1st place
  • Parmesan / 3rd place

The royal crown for Swiss Emmental

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair held the 95th edition of its agricultural fair and famous dairy product contest this year. The fair recognizes excellence in cheese and butter production in Canada by inviting producers to compete in four major categories: Butter, Cheddar, Variety Cheese and Goat and Sheep Milk Variety Cheese.

The thrilling competition saw Fromagerie L’Ancêtre win five prizes, including first place for its Swiss Emmental. This is the first time that a L’Ancêtre cheese earns first place in this major contest! It was also a first ever grand prize for this Swiss Emmental, an exciting recognition for this extremely versatile product.

L’Ancêtre’s award-winning cheeses and butters are:

  • Swiss Emmental / 1st place
  • Mild Cheddar / 2nd place
  • Medium Cheddar / 3rd place
  • Parmesan / 3rd place
  • Unsalted Butter / 3rd place
